The River Hawks were handed a 2-0 shutout loss at the hands of New Hampshire on Friday night at the Tsongas Center. The River Hawks had plenty of scoring chances from the get-go but weren't able to fire one past the New Hampshire goalie Kyle Chauvette. The game marked senior goalie Chauvette's first shutout as a Wildcat as he stopped all 26 shots that he faced in the goal crease. UMass Lowell went 0-2 on the man advantage in a scoreless opening period.
In the second period, sophmore Cam MacDonald scored the opening and eventually game winning goal as he cleaned up a loose puck and stashed it past goaltender Austin Elliott. The River Hawks led in the shots on goal department in the middle frame but went to the locker room down 1-0.
In the third period, Lowell continued to attack the UNH net but Chauvette and the Wildcats held down the fort. New Hampshire cashed in on an empty-net goal while shorthanded by defenseman Ryan Philbrick. The River Hawks thought they had broken the shutout in the last minute of play but the goal was overturned keeping a zero on the scoreboard until the clock ran out. New Hampshire left the Tsongas Center with a 2-0 victory. The River Hawks fell to 4-5 on the season but ended up getting revenge on UNH on Saturday night on the road.
